The AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, Eighth Edition includes increasing level 1 and 2 research evidence to guide changes in thyroid staging. Dr. Williams provides illustrated examples to address the changes between the seventh and eighth editions and the pathologic factors needed to correctly stage thyroid cancer. She also discusses the addition of the collection of prognostic factors, such as mutations, biomarkers, and markers unique to thyroid cancer to further define tumor prognosis.
